Step 1 – Arya Samaj Marriage

Arya Samaj Mandirs are authorized to solemnize marriages under the Arya Samaj Marriage Validation Act, 1937 and Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.

It is mainly for Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains (and those who convert).

Eligibility:

  • Religion: Both must be Hindus (or convert via Shuddhi ceremony before marriage).

  • Age:

    • Groom – 21 years or above

    • Bride – 18 years or above

  • Both must be of sound mind and not within prohibited relationships.

  • Interfaith couples can marry if one converts to Hinduism before ceremony.

Documents Required for Arya Samaj Marriage:

  • Birth Certificate / School Leaving Certificate / Passport (Age proof)

  • Aadhaar / Voter ID / Passport (Address proof)

  • 7–8 Passport-size photos of each

  • Affidavit of age, marital status, and nationality (from both)

  • If divorced – Divorce Decree, If widowed – Death Certificate of spouse

  • Two witnesses with ID proofs

  • For conversion (if needed) – Conversion Certificate from Arya Samaj Mandir

  2. Verification of details & affidavits

  3. Shuddhi (Purification) if conversion is involved

  4. Marriage rituals – Havan, Vedic chants, Saptapadi (7 steps), Sindoor & Mangalsutra

Police protection during or after court marriage is usually sought when:

  • The couple is marrying against family wishes.

  • There is a risk of threats, harassment, or violence from relatives or community members.

"Muslim Court Marriage"
Simple, Legal, and Shariah-Compliant

Step 1 – Documents Required

  • Age proof (Birth Certificate, Passport, School Certificate, Aadhaar)

  • Address proof (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport, Ration Card, Driving License)

  • 7–8 passport-size photos each

  • Affidavit of age, marital status, and religion (from both)

  • If divorced – Divorce Deed/Khula Certificate/Talaqnama

  • If widowed – Death Certificate of spouse

  • Witnesses’ ID proofs and photos

  • Conversion Certificate (if applicable)

Step 2 – Nikah Ceremony

  1. Performed by a Qazi / Maulana according to Islamic Shariat.

  2. Mehr (dower amount) is decided and agreed upon.

  3. Bride’s consent is obtained twice to confirm agreement.

  4. Nikahnama (Islamic marriage contract) is signed by:

    • Bride

    • Groom

    • Witnesses

    • Qazi

  5. Qazi issues a Nikahnama Certificate.

  • Police Protection During Muslim Court Marriage
  • If you fear honour-based threats, community pressure, or parental opposition, you can seek police protection in these ways:
  • Application to Local Police Station:

    • Submit a written request to the SHO/Station House Officer of the police station in your jurisdiction, mentioning:

      • Both parties’ names, ages, and consent

      • Scheduled date & place of court marriage

      • Any threats faced from family/community

    • Attach Aadhaar cards and age proof.

  • Approach Superintendent of Police (SP):

    • If the local police do not act, approach the SP or Commissioner for immediate protection.

  • High Court Protection Petition:

    • Couples often file a writ petition in the High Court under Article 226 of the Constitution seeking police protection of life and liberty.

    • Courts usually order police to ensure safety, especially in inter-caste or inter-religious marriages.

  • On Marriage Day:

    • Police can be requested to be present at the Registrar’s office or Arya Samaj Mosque/Marriage Hall (if you are also doing Nikah).

"Inter-Caste Court Marriage"
Simple, Legal

  1. Process of Intercaste Court Marriage:

  2. Notice of Intended Marriage

    • The couple has to file a marriage notice at the District Marriage Registrar’s office where one partner has lived for at least 30 days.

  3. Publication of Notice (30 Days Waiting)

    • The notice is displayed on the notice board of the Registrar’s office.

    • If no valid objection is raised within 30 days, the marriage can proceed.

  4. Documents Required

    • Age Proof (Birth certificate, 10th/12th Marksheet, Passport, etc.)

    • Address Proof (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Driving License, etc.)

    • Passport-size Photos (usually 6 each)

    • Affidavit of marital status (unmarried/divorcee/widow)

    • Divorce decree/death certificate (if applicable)

    • ID proofs of 3 witnesses

  5. Solemnization of Marriage

    • After 30 days, the couple and 3 witnesses appear before the Marriage Officer.

    • The marriage is solemnized and registered.

  6. Marriage Certificate

    • A legal Court Marriage Certificate is issued – valid across India for all purposes (passport, visa, bank, inheritance, etc.).

"Foreign Court Marriage"
(Special Marriage Act, 1954)


    • Indian + Foreign National (Marriage in India)

    • Marriage is solemnized under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.

    • Process:

      1. Give 30-day notice at the Marriage Registrar’s office.

      2. Documents required:

        • Valid passport & visa of foreign partner

        • Proof of stay/residence in India (minimum 30 days residence required before notice)

        • Birth certificate

        • Single-status certificate / No-objection certificate (NOC) from embassy/consulate of foreign partner

        • Divorce decree/death certificate if previously married

      3. After 30 days, appear with 3 witnesses, solemnize marriage, and get Marriage Certificate.
